The Deer + Almond website underwent a complete redesign as part of a school project. Nestled in the vibrant Exchange District, chef Mandel Hitzer’s Deer + Almond is celebrated for its tapas-style dishes and a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is renowned for its delicious food, lively ambiance, and strong sense of community. The redesign aimed to capture the essence of this experience with a blend of fresh, vibrant, and subtly moody elements, reflecting the unique character of the venue.

Challenges

D+A’s current website provides essential information about the restaurant, but it’s essentially a lengthy text-based menu and overview. While informative, it falls short of leveraging the full potential of a website. The call-to-action (CTA) elements are not prominent enough, leading to missed opportunities for bookings and reservations. Additionally, the website’s typography, colors, and photography do not capture the essence of the brand or the dining experience, and it is missing customer reviews, which are crucial for building trust and engagement.

What I accomplished

The redesign began by adopting the restaurant’s existing style and color palette, giving it a fresh, modern look. Typography was updated, and the font page was streamlined into clear, distinct sections. A cohesive photography style, UI kit, and iconography were introduced, capturing the restaurant’s unique atmosphere. Additional pages such as “About,” “Projects,” and “Catering” were incorporated to organize and simplify information. Creative copywriting and clear CTAs were added to the landing page, making it easy for visitors to make reservations directly.

In conclusion

In the service sector, effective CTA (Call to Action) and copywriting are crucial. It’s essential not to overwhelm users with too much information at once. Instead, offer them control over how deeply they wish to explore or what they want to focus on next. The goal is to present information in a clear, engaging, and authentic manner that highlights the unique aspects of the services and the environment, ensuring that the story remains both original and reflective of the brand.
